York River 2007
York River 28th June 2007.

We where lucky enough to get to fish the White House Pool. This pool is the pool bellow the fence pool in the York river (the fence pool name is White House Jr.). It is very difficult to get to fish this pool as it is mostly in private fishing through the season but Bill was able to get us this one day. This pool is called the White House Pool because there is a small white house above the pool where the guards live through out the season but there is another explanation and that is...there is a LOT of very big fish in this pool. I saw the biggest flashes I have seen in my life in this pool and we estimated that there where about 50 over 20p salmon in this pool the day we fished it

Joe started in White House Jr. and it looked like a fantastic place for a hitch but I crossed the river and started hitching the upper part of the White House.

I think i was in my 3rd cast with Haugur Micro hitch (hook #16) when she came out but did not take it. I only needed about two other casts to the same place and she took it. It was a beautiful 10-12pound female that Drapper Clark our guide for the day landed with me (Drapper Clark is the son of Austin Clark witch is the most famous guide in Gaspé and he is a 3rd generation salmon guide).

Very nice 10-12pound female that was allowed to go back to play with the big shots iin the White House.

Joe caught two and hooked the third this day. He started by catching one in the White House Jr. on the Snaelda, then another by casting up-stream and stripping 8" strips back with a green Frances #8 in the White House pool and the third in the WH jr. he hooked was on a dry fly! He was casting up stream and having the fly drift down stream about 5 yards and the salmon turns around and runs after the fly and takes it. The salmon left the Jr. and came down to White House pool, he and Drapper had to cross but after about 15min fight the fly just came out! Good day for Joe though, two salmon and the third hooked.
