20. August 2004. Svalbardsa


The group this year. As previous years then Hilmar brings a new partner (they typically only last one year with him... we believe...) and this time it was Siggi A. Siggi had just started fishing for salmon and today he is completely hooked. Throstur, Joe, my self, Maggi, Siggi and Hilmar.


We had not seen the river this low since the first year we had fished there. The weather this day was way to good. Very hot and clear with a lot of sun. Nothing happened on section 3 this day.


25. August 2004. We had the mountain and started in Laxahylur. Joe went down to fish but I sat on top and watched. After couple of casts he hooks a fish on Haugur hitch. I marked the time: 9:15am. After fighting the fish for awhile the fish went all the way to the head of the pool and stayed there for awhile. Then after some time he took off...

and Joe started running... he had a 5 weight rod so he did not have very much control over where the salmon would go. I saw the salmon from above and it did not look very big to me so I was thinking what the hell is he doing...just pull it in!!! But the salmon seemed to be out off control and ran down stream..


10:05am or 50 minutes later and almost a quarter mile down the river in a pool named Gilid he finally got him. Joe had crossed the river and then again before I came running to help him land it.


Great male that was not ready to leave the river, amazingly only 8pounds and by far the most difficult salmon Joe had ever had to fight.

The last day of the trip, 5 minutes before noon, I hooked and landed a 6pound salmon from Forseti. I knew excactly where they where laying and had been hitting on them for 30 - 40 min. before he finally went for a Black Frances Conehead.


Great finish to a great trip of 2004.
